Who we are
Despurate House Cats was founded to create a safe and welcoming environment where adoptable cats can find their forever homes. Based in New Milford, CT, it serves as a hub for animal rescue, advocacy, and community engagement.
Our vision goes beyond rescue. We are on a mission to build a compassionate community, raise awareness about animal welfare, and advocate for critical initiatives like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) to reduce the feral cat population. Our goal is to increase adoptions, provide a sanctuary for at-risk cats, and create opportunities for people to connect with animals while supporting meaningful change.
Looking ahead, we are excited to share our future goal of opening a cat adoption lounge by 2026. This space will be more than just a place to meet adoptable cats—it will be a vibrant, cage-free environment designed to foster connections between people and animals. Our lounge will offer opportunities for community involvement, host events that celebrate and support rescue efforts, and provide an enriching, stress-free space for the cats in our care. This vision reflects our commitment to creating a meaningful and impactful experience for both our community and the animals we serve.
Founder
Welcome, and thank you for your interest and support! My name is Carley, and I’ve lived in New Milford, CT, my entire life. From a young age, I've had a deep passion for everything feline (and poodle!). My first cat, Tigger, grew up alongside me, and since then, I've dedicated myself to rescuing and fostering countless cats. My home is full of love, with multiple cats and dogs living together in harmony.
Beyond my love for cats, I enjoy learning, hiking, indulging in comfort TV shows, and exploring my passion for the culinary arts through cooking and baking. However, my heart truly lies in rescuing and advocating for animals in need. This passion drives me to create a safe haven for homeless and at-risk cats in our community.
Professionally, I’ve spent many years as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, gaining hands-on experience in animal care and veterinary medicine. This, combined with my background in customer service, has allowed me to foster a welcoming environment for both people and animals. I’m also proud of my extensive rescue work, having fostered and rehabilitated countless animals, including those with special needs.
As the founder, I’m deeply committed to creating a rescue that serves as a sanctuary for adoptable cats, while also fostering a sense of community among animal lovers. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these animals and work towards a brighter, more compassionate future for all.
